It is ‘cool’ to be anti-fashion if you are a legitimate ‘hipster’ (sub-culture of young people that are usually worldly intellectuals that are counter culture). But what do you do when you want to identify with these progressive freedom-thinkers and go ‘no logo’?

Well, you boycott the high-end fashion brands and head down to the local charity shop to buy some tight-ripped jeans, a lumber jack’s old red and black checked plaid, and some dude’s old marathon shirt from the 1980s and an ex-librarian’s thick-rimmed glasses with no lenses.

However, there is a little problem here in Bahrain because the thrift stores are far and few between. Therefore, I’ll make an ironic suggestion and guide you to the nearest mall to spend your money, (I’ll pause for smirk).

Pull and Bear is synonymous with street style and the autumn/winter collection is full of ironic clothing for an alternative appeal in apparel. I know it goes against the whole idea of being a ‘hipster’, but the products are affordable and your parents would rather you wear new clothing than some old mangy stuff anyway.

You can find checked plaid shirts (half tucked for full effect) for BD17.500, military wear (originally worn in the 1960s as anti-war statements), retro bomber jackets for BD25.900, ‘trash’ printed sweatshirts (for respectable ladies only please) for BD14.900 and gorgeous men’s flower pastel printed sweat-shirts for BD17.900. Yes, men are wearing floral in typical women’s colours for their sartorial choices to be well, rather satirical … but it actually looks fab.

So the idea here ladies is for you to wear an oversized sweater with tights under shorts or rolled cuff boyfriend jeans with men’s sport socks and coloured high-tops (made purposely not to run in) or a pair of trendy bluchers.

If you can part with your mane opt for an androgynous haircut for this full ‘norm core’ look. This laid back effortless fashion is said to put full focus on your natural beauty and make the statement ‘I do not have to spend a ton of money on fashion to prove my beauty’. Love it, be natural and wear something unfashionable to attempt to be fashionable at the fraction of the cost.
