Riffa Golf Club PGA professional Colin Ferguson returned triumphant from Scotland after finishing a five-month secondment to St Andrews, the home of golf.

Colin was based at the St Andrews Links Golf Academy during his stay where he was introduced to some of the latest golf tuition techniques and computer software such as the Sam (science and motion) putting lab.

“My time at St Andrews was very useful and I learned a lot from Steve North, the academy’s director of instruction,” explained Colin, pictured right.

“The Ricoh Ladies British Open was held on the old course in July and I was lucky enough to be able to help out with the operational side of that.

“I also spent a few days at the famous Gleneagles Hotel where I shadowed the golf services manager, a role I will be taking on when the new course at Riffa Views opens next year.”

His time in Scotland was not all work though. He managed to fit in a few rounds of golf and even achieved a hole-in-one while based at St Andrews.

From Scotland, he moved on to Ireland for a week where he looked after a small group of Riffa Golf Club members who were on a tour of some of the Emerald Isle’s most famous courses.

“During the one rest day of the tour I decided to play a round at the famous K Club, host of the 2006 Ryder Cup,” Colin said.

“I couldn’t believe my luck when I got another hole-in-one, this time on the 14th hole.

“Two hole-in-ones in a month in two different countries isn’t bad going!”
