The Moda Mall at the Sheraton Complex, Manama is showcasing handmade traditional handicrafts by hosting Bahraini women from the Al Kurar House on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays until Eid. The renowned Kurar house in Bahrain is a renovated old house, used for reproducing unique local embroidery as well as a production center for traditional female handicrafts.
Al Kurar is a handicraft art that was practiced at home by ladies in Muharraq. The embroidery is carried out in the presence of a head woman (called Qataba) and two or three other women (called Dawakheel). The unique, diligent and beautiful form of embroidery done with golden threads is clearly visible in the ethnic Kurar dresses.
