Bahrain –born entrepreneur Arjun Devji has combined tradition and craftsmanship to create a new range for his family’s jewellery business.

The Misbah prayer beads collection features 20 different designs, handcrafted and connected to an intricately-designed ‘karkoosh’ in silver.

Arjun, executive director of Bhaskar Devji Company said: “The collection is the perfect opportunity for us to showcase not only our exquisite craftsmanship and careful attention to detail, but also to pay homage to something really special – faith and prayers.

“As personal as prayers are, we have committed our finest craftsmen and resources into producing nothing less than the very best.

“It is our faith in tradition and our understanding of both the ethnic and contemporary aesthetics that has led us to produce the Misbah collection.”

The gemstones are handpicked from various countries around the world including Russia, Germany, Brazil, Australia and South Africa. They include amber, turquoise, agate, lapis, amazonite, tiger eye, rose quartz, amethyst and black onyx.

Raised in Bahrain, the former Indian School Bahrain pupil joined the family business shortly after graduating in Business Administration from the Symbiosis Institute in Pune, located in the western Indian state of Maharashtra.

Arjun, 24, who lives in Adliya, joined the company’s workshop to learn the ropes of the family’s 61-year-old jewellery business.

After learning more about the business and the industry at large, he came up with the Misbah range after spotting a gap in the market.

Arjun said: “I used to visit the shops and check out the products on offer and noticed that there was no collection specifically catering to men and that’s when I came up with the idea.”

After doing some research on the Misbah, Arjun pitched the idea to the board members of the Devji Group. Once approved, he began working on the collection with his in-house designer at the company’s factory in Manama.

Arjun said: “Initially, when we first launched Devji Aurum around 10 years ago, we had introduced a ‘Misbah’ collection in gold. However, it did not fare too well.

“This time around we decided to use silver, which is also more accessible and affordable for our customers.”

The collection ranges between BD250 and BD700.
