United World College (UWC) Bahrain committee has invited applications from students in the kingdom keen on completing their final school years in an international campus providing a challenging and stimulating pre-university educational experience.

UWC, with 13 schools worldwide, offers a two-year residential International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma programme for 16-17-year-olds who are looking for an education with a difference in a community of students and teachers from more than 80 countries.

Their aim is to deliver a challenging and transformative pre-university educational experience to a diverse cross section of students, inspiring them to create a more peaceful and sustainable future.

Academically-motivated pupils of any nationality who are currently in their first or second year of secondary school or equivalent (Year 11/12 for those in British curriculum schools, or Grade 10/11 for those in American curriculum schools) and will be 16 or 17 years of age by September 1 are eligible to apply to UWC Bahrain. Deadline for applying is March 15.

For the academic years 2012-2014, UWC Bahrain has received two fee-paying places at UWC Costa Rica (approximately BD17,000 total for both years excluding airfare and pocket money) and UWC Mahindra College in India (approximately BD15,000 total for both years excluding airfare and pocket money).

Committee member Karina Zidan said: “UWC Bahrain generally aims to raise funds for fee-paying places but at this time it is unlikely that funds will be locally sourced for these two places.

“However, please consider applying even if your family is unable to commit to the full fees mentioned above as funds sometimes do materialise at the last minute. In addition, shortlisted candidates who are unable to fulfil offers or who are not offered a place are sometimes nominated to take part in UWC short programmes over the summer.

“Students can enjoy an inspiring and engaging school life as you participate in volunteer work and a huge range of activities including performance, cultural clubs, music, rock climbing, hiking and debating.”

Applicants must have basic English language communication skills and a good academic record achieving at least 90 per cent in the previous academic year, or A/B students, or a 3.4 GPA.
