THREE was the dominant number as the GulfWeekly-sponsored Arsenal Soccer School Bahrain Ladies League resumed after the Eid break.

In two of the games, teams hauled back three-goal deficits to grab a point, while Joga took three goals and three points in a walkover against St Christopher’s.

League leaders Arsenal Yellow found themselves three goals down early on against an improving Venus team, with Anastasia picking up a brace and Fatema Mahmood notching one before the youngsters fought back in fantastic spirit. Kia Hanahoe was almost the hero for the Yellows – hitting the post with a smart effort which would have completed the comeback. However, a draw was certainly the fair result.

The other comeback queens were Saudi-based Eastern Flames. Goals from Arsenal Red’s Reema Al Quassab and Rama Salem put the league’s second-placed team in a strong position, but the Flames, having improved their determination along with their playing ability this season, refused to give up. With Leah Montenegro hitting the target twice and Bashma Al Namlah also getting on the scoresheet, the Saudis grabbed a deserving point.

When the same teams first played each other earlier this season, both Arsenal teams won their matches, with Joga and St Chris drawing, so this shows how unpredictable and exciting this season is. Next week sees Joga taking on the Flames, the Yellows playing St Christopher’s, and the Reds against Venus.
