The Editor of this newspaper got a touch of his own medicine and has sworn never to officiate at a football match again.

He volunteered to run the line during a schoolboys’ friendly fixture last weekend and never truly appreciated the verbal abuse match officials have to endure until that day.

The worst rollicking he received from parents came from his own beloved wife after he ruled their son’s team’s potentially winning goal controversially off-side.

He now suggests beleaguered football coach José Mourinho has a go … he wouldn’t be half as critical of the men in black in future!

But, if you remain a fan of the Special One, and have a fistful of dinars to spare, check out the Gulf Weekly Book Club on Page 6.
