The riding calendar is going to get busy over the next couple of weeks, so Carina Abdulrahman, manager of the Dilmun Riding Stables, instigated an impromptu show jumping event on Thursday evening.
There were three classes – Green Horse, Junior 1 and Adult 1 – and the event was very well attended, with everyone getting a little taste of show jumping prior to the BREEF event this coming Friday.
The Green Horse class started the afternoon off brilliantly. There were 10 entries with six of them going clear.
Following Green Horse was the Junior 1 class with eight riders getting into the fray. After a nail-biting finish Charlotte Gunby produced a double whammy and managed to beat herself! Charlotte took home first and second prizes in this class, Maud Tinsley was just pipped at the post and came in third.
Next was the Adult 1 class, which was also opened up to the juniors wanting to participate, and saw 11 riders and their mounts come into the arena.
In pole position in this class was veteran rider Basel Al Dossari astride Tayar. The pair defeated Carina who was riding Dilmun Tashan in the class, though after some excellent riding by everyone concerned, it was ‘Scottish’ Georgia Sims for the Juniors who rode into third spot.
The event was a great success and has left everyone ready to take part in the forthcoming show jumping and dressage challenges.
The afternoon had taken on a very special meaning for one young lady who rode exceptionally well, which was her just desserts as it was her 11th birthday on the day. Florence Tinsley claimed a clear round in the Green Horse event and was extremely unlucky in Junior 1 to miss out on a podium place.
Florence, following in her sister Maud’s shoes, absolutely loves riding and looks certain to be one of our future show jumping champions.

FORTHCOMING EVENTS
Twin Palms Riding Centre has a full schedule of events. To start the week off the stable is having a mock dressage, to prepare their horses and riders for the forthcoming BREEF dressage event of January 26.
TPRC horses and riders will perform their dressage routines under test conditions. Not only will they be judged and have their comments provided on the judging sheets, they will be video-taped in order to have a real-time perspective of their performances.
Whilst this is an excellent idea and will give all riders an insight into what both they and their horses need to work on, it, of course, will be different on the day. Performing at home even in test conditions is infinitely easier then performing at an unfamiliar venue in front of lots of strangers.
However, this is an excellent exercise for everyone to test the waters and will be held today from 3.30pm.
*This Friday, BREEF (Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation) will host the third of its show jumping events at Saar Stables, and whilst writing this article, the schedule has not yet been confirmed, we understand that the event will follow the same principle as the first show jumping, with two classes for juniors and two classes for adults.
*On Saturday, Twin Palms Riding Centre, will host the second of this season’s Junior Show Jumping events. The first, held back in November, was such an overwhelming success, Anki Holmstrom promised it would be repeated.
The classes will feature a Treasure Hunt, a Clear Round Class, a Mini Accumulator and the afternoon will finish off with Anki’s most popular event, the Obstacle Challenge.
The show starts at 3pm and all spectators are welcome.
*On Friday, January 25, BREEF is staging another show jumping event at the BDF ground in Zallaq, the schedule for this event has not yet been published. However, we understand there will be three mixed classes as before. Hopefully, I can give you more information nearer the time on this event.
*On Saturday, January 26, BREEF will host the first in a series of dressage events. The event will take place at Saar Stables, and from what I hear, it is going to be phenomenal.
Everyone is talking ‘dressage’ and all stables are bringing out their riders to participate in this event. It will undoubtedly produce a fantastic display of excellent horseman/womanship. So don’t forget to get your entries into BREEF by the coming Saturday.
*To round off the month, there will be the expertise of Ian Wright, who will be in Bahrain conducting his lessons from January 27 to February 8.
