Bahrain Science Centre will be focusing on desert life and plants to help increase awareness among the Bahraini population towards their agriculture and its importance to the economy.

There will be workshops and talks conducted by professional speakers about agriculture in Bahrain, water usage, usage of drain water as well as plant and herbs that grow in the kingdom. The centre will give all visitors gift packages of seeds and small plants.

Looking for a fun project to start that will unite Bahrain?  The Bahrain Quilt Project is spearheaded by the American Women’s Association (AWA) and is under the patronage of the Ministry of Social Development under the ‘Whehda Wahda’ initiative.

A quilt can tell a story, commemorate an event, unite the community and reflect a culture. What is the purpose of this project? Through the process of quilting, patching together quilt blocks made by different organisations and individuals – both Bahraini and non-Bahraini – we want to reflect the social fabric of a nation.

Some of the organisations that are taking part include: Bahrain Japan Business Friendship Society, Bahrain Woman Society, British Embassy, Pakistani Women’s Association, Riffa Elderly Home, Greek Consulate, Young Ladies Association, Awal Women Society, Dumistan Society, Al Markh and St Christopher’s Cathedral.

Some of them have already submitted their blocks. The concept of the block is up to each organisation’s aesthetics, the size requested of 25 inches x 25 inches and the theme is to have a Bahraini influence. The final size of the Bahrain Quilt will vary according to the number of blocks we receive and AWA’s current target is to receive 117 blocks!

The deadline to submit your block is February 18.
