Neighbourly rivalry was to the fore at the weekend when the ace players of sand faced up to the swanky swingers of the glorious green in a mix ’n’ match of momentous mastery and high drama.

Golfers from Royal Golf Club (RGC) and Awali Golf Club (AGC) stepped out on Saturday, playing 9 holes on home turf and 9 holes on away turf, in the fifth installment of an inter-club team match play.

The RGC v AGC Green-Brown Challenge was only revived last season. With play on the two courses, the contest provided an opportunity for players to demonstrate their ability on both a grass and desert course.

The competition began at RGC in a four ball better ball handicapped match play format. As the morning progressed, the gentle breeze strengthened and was at rising-sand level by 2pm as the last group finished.

Back in the clubhouse, RGC’s tournament coordinator Adam Dutson announced the results, each group, one-by-one. A final hole success for AGC meant the match was tied for the first time in the competition’s history.
