The Ma’a Salama Cup was staged at Awali Golf Club last Friday, the day prior to a flight to retirement in France by the competition’s sponsors, Bill Scarth and Nicki Park.

The competition winner was Awali stalwart Onny Martin with 40 points, Nevil Malao came runner-up with 39 and third place went to Les Young on 39.

Madeleine Doporto notched 38 and Sarah Hobday, Rashed Ahmed Abdulla and Serwin Rampersad, all on 37, followed respectively.

Rounding out the vast field in eighth, ninth and 10th place came Jelmer Hoff, also with 37, and Richard Pawson and Yong Back Kim, both with 36.

Captain Paul Anderson highlighted the ‘contribution played by Bill and Nicki’ and said their absence would leave a ‘noticeable hole’. He then presented Bill with a commemorative plaque in recognition of his service on the club’s committee, noting that Bill stepped forward as a volunteer shortly after becoming a member.

The evening continued with meal and a performance by Nigel Griffiths, Andy Doherty and John Parker on guitars and ukelele.
