POPULAR UK fashion line Marks & Spencer will be launching its Autumn Winter 2018 collection in stores around the globe and online next month convinced it can make a positive impact against the competition and win over hearts with its style and grace.
The brand has designed a collection that is simple yet elegant, cohesive yet versatile and believes it is tailored to suit a woman’s ever-changing needs from day to night.
The Poetic line features a colourful array of clothing in pink tones from soft blush to rose and rich burgundy to fuchsia. Hues are highlighted by luxurious textures such as chunky knitwear and plush corduroy. The Sartorial collection sees classic shapes and chic tailoring reworked through a sports lux lens with emerald green and cobalt blue giving the aesthetic an upgrade. Classic check separates meet quilting and wool blends for a strong fabric direction.
Those are the Autumn-inspired offerings. Winter offers a more supple and sumptuous vibe in the Soft Heritage look. It’s all about layers of animal print and caramel tone with a hint of lilac lifting the overall mood. Meanwhile, Onyx offers a contemporary take on the party spirit with hero dresses, statement pieces and a rich colour palette of teal and ochre.
The Occasion wear will make any female stand out with sparkly, sequined dresses and figure hugging jumpsuits coming in an array of eye-catching fabrics and flattering styles.
From the beginning, when Marks and Spencer sold its first bra in 1926, the brand became a byword for British-made quality goods. Shoppers fell in love with ‘easy-care’ fabric dresses in the 1950s and 60s and with its tailoring and knitwear in the 1970s and 1980s.
A renewed focus on design in the 1990s saw the retailer scale new heights. Its clothing even graced the front cover of Vogue magazine. Supermodel Amber Valetta was featured wearing the M&S polyester shirt.
And with acclaim from the fashion press came bumper sales. Marks and Spencer’s sales peaked in 1997 and 1998 but in more recent years the store has struggled against discounters and budget chains at the lower end. Brands like Zara and H&M have been taking a chunk out of the middle end of the market too, while designer labels has taken a bigger bite at the higher end.
Marks and Spencer should be about beautiful basics, according to fashion observers and the revival in its appeal started to take place three years ago when fashionistas went mad for its mid-length suede skirt after it was worn by fashion celebrity Alexa Chung.
This latest collection should add to the feel good factor. Check out the range at stores in City Centre Bahrain and Seef Mall shortly.
