Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) has held its annual coordination meeting as part of the nationwide preparations for the upcoming Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2019, taking place March 28 to 31 in Sakhir.

BIC officials met with representatives from the various ministries and government agencies involved in the hosting of the race.

The gathering took place at the circuit premises, with BIC chief executive Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa presiding over the event. Also in attendance were members of BIC management from different departments.

During the meeting, Beshara Abdo Beshara, the BIC governmental affairs, security and safety director, presented a plan detailing all important issues regarding the organisation of the grand prix weekend. It included procedures of welcoming guests from all over the world to the kingdom, amongst many things.

This year’s Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix is set to be the second of 21 rounds on the 2019 FIA Formula 1 World Championship. The 57-lap sprint in the heart of the Sakhir desert will mark the 999th World Championship race in the history of the top flight.

It is being held as part of the landmark 15th season of BIC and it will be the sixth time it is taking place under BIC’s state-of-the-art floodlights as a night race.

Formula 1 action will be complemented on track by a pair of support series in the FIA Formula 2 Championship and the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East, ensuring “Limitless” on-track action.

Formula 2, widely accepted to be the chief feeder series to Formula 1, will be staging the opening round of its 2019 season in Bahrain.

The new campaign is set to feature 12 meetings in all, with each weekend running in conjunction with a Formula 1 Grand Prix. There are 20 cars representing 10 teams on the grid.

Meanwhile, the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East’s penultimate round will be staged at the BIC this weekend, before returning to stage its sixth and final meeting of the 2018/2019 campaign during the F1 weekend. Drivers race in identical 911s, supplied by the founders from Lechner Racing.
