Cutting-Edge designer Karl Lagerfeld is finally offering his purrrfect accessories in the kingdom.

The German fashion mogul known for his rock-star-style, starched collars, signature gloves and white ponytail recently launched his first store in City Centre Bahrain with a glamorous event.

According to the label’s representative, this store is the latest addition to the brand’s growing portfolio in the region and represents a continued commitment to expanding its presence here and around the globe.

During the unveiling, VIPs, invited guests, bloggers and members of the media admired the assortment of iconic kitty-inspired bags and clutches, whisker-embellished gloves and cat-eared berets, sparkling shoes, shiny watches and other leather goods.

Pink leather gloves with ears, shimmery shades, a heart nose and whiskers, which are priced at BD49, was a big smash with bloggers. It can be complimented by a matching giant pink bag and casual shoes both priced at BD147.

The black wallet with pink shades, heart nose and whiskers goes for BD82. Sequenced Karl pop art ballerina flats also dazzled in the shop window and can be snapped up for BD123. While these items stood out, there are many more sequenced goods that will give any outfit either a classy appeal or cool look.

Not surprising, as Karl is the father of cool when it comes to fashion and has been spotted with several A-listers, celebrities and models hanging on his arms and wearing his designs at various upscale events.

His designs have been a hit with starlets, singers and socialites including Blake Lively, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Rachel Bilson.

Aside from wowing with his own line, the Paris-based fashion icon also happens to be the head designer and creative director of Chanel, as well as the Italian house Fendi. Karl has collaborated with many other fashionable brands over the years.

He first began to freelance for French fashion house Chloé in 1964 designing a few pieces each season until he designed the entire collection. His Chloé collection for spring 1973 captured the attention of newspapers and magazines for offering something both ‘high fashion and high camp’.

He showed loose Spencer jackets and printed silk shirt-jackets. He designed something he called a ‘surprise’ skirt which was in an ankle-length, pleated silk, so loose that it hid the fact it was actually pants.

He also designed a look inspired by Carmen Miranda, which consisted of mini-bra dresses with very short skirts, and long dresses with bra tops and scarf shawls. From 1972, he collaborated with Italian fashion house Fendi, designing furs, clothing, and other accessories.

Since the 1970s, Karl has occasionally worked as a costume designer for theatrical productions. He collaborated with stage directors such as Luca Ronconi and Jürgen Flimm, and designed for theatres such as La Scala in Milan (Les Troyens by Hector Berlioz, 1980; directed by Ronconi) and the Salzburg Festival (Der Schwierige by Hugo von Hofmannsthal, 1990; directed by Flimm).

He has also designed costumes for the Carmen sequences in the 2002 film Callas Forever and in 2004 he created some outfits for singer Madonna for her famed Re-Invention Tour. He also fabricated outfits for Kylie Minogue’s Showgirl tour.

Karl is also a photographer, having personally captured Mariah Carey for the cover of V magazine in 2005 and assigned for editorial work for Harper’s Bazaar, Numéro and Russian and German editions of Vogue.
