Three club rule

A common mistake among amateur golfers is the fact that many use one club for all their short game shots, this usually being a high lofted club as well.

I like to use the ‘three club approach’ to short game play which basically involves taking three different lofted clubs with you for every chip shot and deciding on the best club once you’ve evaluated the shot itself.

A good selection would be sand wedge, pitching wedge and an 8 iron and choosing one of these depending on the lie of the ball and the amount of green you have to work with.

Give this a go the next time you play and see how much closer you’ll get the ball to the hole consistently.
