American Mission Hospital will be hosting the 20th AMH Island Classic charity golf tournament at His Majesty the King’s private golf course in Saffriya this weekend.
Since its inception in 1997 the major hospital fundraiser has become a much-awaited and coveted event in the sporting calendar of Bahrain.
The Island Classic is played under the Texas scramble format. There are two flights: Championship and Premiership which allows various skill levels of golfers to participate. The King’s golf course has seen some tremendous action and exciting moments over the three-day tournament each year.
His Majesty King Hamad has supported the charitable objective of the Island Classic as patron of the not-for-profit hospital’s annual event. Funds raised are invested in securing new equipment and continuing community outreach work.
As reported in GulfWeekly, AMH’s strategic plan to provide care closer to where communities live is now expanding its health services to Riffa with a special sports medicine and rehabilitation section set to open soon.
Dr George Cheriyan, AMH’s chief medical officer and CEO, said: “I would like to thank everyone who plays a role in the enormous success of the event. Our deepest appreciation goes to the sponsors whose loyal support ensures that we run the tournament year after year, the golfers who delight us with their skills and showmanship, His Majesty’s golf course staff for their in-valuable co-operation and assistance and not to forget our precious volunteers who give freely of their time to come down and support the event.”
