Simmering slits and streaky stripes add a modern sophistication to Roberto Cavalli’s Spring/Summer 2018 collection.

The Italian fashion house, which is deeply rooted in the Mediterranean spirit, artisanal craftsmanship and Florentine heritage, has a different look, style and feel thanks to new creative director, Paul Surridge.

The British-born designer has created lines for Burberry, Calvin Klein and Z Zegna in the past. Now he is turning heads with this debut collection which has already received rave reviews for being ‘day-time friendly and pared-back’.

The seasonal collection is said to have been inspired by the life of the modern woman and aims to showcase ‘strength, power and constant evolvement’.

His focus was to design a daywear wardrobe that was also bold, athletic and real. As a result, the trenches and jackets in monochrome stripes, or maroon and black streaks, are daring, adding flare to work outfits and evening wear.

Paul has also added striped suits, cut out dresses and gowns and billowy summer dresses that halter at the top and flow out at the hemline. The casual dresses swing beautifully with every step.

The gowns still possess a sense of glamour and sensuality with sheer and bedazzled panels and cuts and slits. Paul’s evolution continues in his bags, shoes and accessories as well as fashion jewellery. The line includes multi-coloured pointy flats and loafers, mismatched earrings, clunky and chunky bangles and necklaces as well as leather clutches, satchels and big bags.

There is a Roberto Cavalli in Moda Mall.
