Proud Juventus Academy coach Andrew Collins watched his ‘old boys’ pick up the top prize in the U16 cup section of the on-going GCC Club Series of tournaments.
After two days of league and knockout competition, Juventus Bahrain beat Arsenal Khobar by a single goal.
The victorious team was made up of Khalid Shatter, Mark Elkhoury, Mohamed Khoory, George Axtel, Liam Chapman, Aidan Shretta, Ahmed Al Khalifa and Sami Elkadi.
“They are the first ever players I coached when I came to the island eight years ago,” said Collins, “and this will be probably the last time I will have all the guys together before they go off to college.
“During the times I’ve coached them they’re probably won almost everything we entered except an international tournament, despite reaching cup finals in America, England, Spain and Dubai.
“So it’s great to finally set the international tournament record straight. Maybe it was meant to be, or maybe it was the addition of now playing under a winning Italian philosophy!”
