THE show Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special is now streaming on Disney+.
It will celebrate the iconic series starring Miley Cyrus,
which defined a generation two decades after its Disney Channel debut.
The teen sitcom, which ran from 2006 to 2011, tackled
teenage girl Miley Stewart, who lives a double life as famous pop singer Hannah
Montana – the alter ego she adopted to maintain her anonymity and lead a
regular life.
The show brought alive Miley’s everyday struggles to cope
with social and personal issues in adolescence while maintaining the added
complexities of her secret identity.
The anniversary special was filmed in front of a live
audience and features an exclusive, in-depth interview with the protagonist. It
offers an intimate look at the creation of one of pop culture’s most iconic
characters and the lasting impact it has had on fans around the world.
Viewers will be treated to never-before-seen archival
footage, while some of the most memorable sets are resurrected, including the
Stewart family living room and the legendary Hannah Montana closet.
‘Hannah Montana will always be a part of who I am,” Miley
said in an interview.
“What started as a TV show became a shared experience that
shaped my life and the lives of so many fans, and I’ll always be thankful for
that connection. The fact that it still means so much to people all these years
later is something I’m very proud of. This ‘Hannahversary’ is my way of
celebrating and thanking the fans who’ve stood by me for 20 years,” she added.
Hannah Montana marked the start of Miley’s career. After the
first season’s massive success, Walt Disney Records released a soundtrack album
credited to the titular character. It was both a critical and commercial
success, topping the Billboard 200 chart in the US, and went on to sell over
three million copies worldwide.
With the release of the soundtrack, Miley became the first
act within the Walt Disney Company to have deals in television, film, consumer
products, and music.
