NON-FICTION mental health memoir How to Be Okay When Nothing Is Okay by Jenny Lawson hits the shelves on March 31.
In what is her fifth release, the writer opens up about her
battles with self-doubt, paralysis, anxiety and Attention-deficit/hyperactivity
disorder (ADHD), and offers humorous, heartfelt and genuine tricks and tools.
She relies on them to keep going and stay passionate and
focused on her creative endeavours.
In an interview, the author stated the upcoming work’s
inspiration to be her child going off to college.
“I was feeling unmoored. I had that feeling that I think a
lot of moms do when their kids go off,” she said.
“And you think, ‘I didn’t teach them everything I needed to
teach them. They’re going to make so many mistakes, and I’ve already made those
mistakes, so I should teach them’,” she added.
“I keep journals of things that helped me with my anxiety,
depression and ADHD, and with writing and creativity so, I started creating
this tool kit that I could pass on to my kid. And I realised this is the book
that I wish I’d had when I was young.”
The 52-year-old author, blogger and journalist has been
recognised and praised by a number of international publications throughout her
career.
She was a finalist at the Weblog
Awards in 2010 for best writing and most humorous writer, and in 2011 for best
writing, most humorous writer and weblog of the year.
