One of Bahrain’s top motorsport officials will now take on the reins as the deputy race director of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) World Endurance Championship (WEC) this year, writes Naman Arora.

Bahrain International Circuit’s (BIC) chief operating officer Fayez Ramzy Fayez will work directly with the FIA championship race director.

In a statement, the BIC announced that Fayez was in Belgium over the past weekend performing his role in the opening round of this year’s WEC season at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.

Fayez will attend all championship rounds and control practice, qualifying and the race itself.

“Fayez’s new role is a testament to Bahrain’s rich motorsport culture and Bahraini expertise in the sport, as well as the trust the international motor racing community has in Bahraini talents,” a BIC spokesperson said.

In addition to being on the Bahrain Motor Federation Board, Fayez is also the Motorsports Marshals Club President, FIA Circuit Commission member since 2010 and FIA Gold Track Inspector. He has also been the Clerk of the Course for the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix since 2004.
