He may have been denied his 007 moment, but Idris Elba is set to return in yet another British action thriller to prove his mettle as an on-screen champion.

In the upcoming Apple TV series Hijack, Idris plays Sam Nelson, a talented business negotiator who must use his skills to broker a peaceful end to the hijacking of a flight from Dubai to London.

Unfolding in real time, the tense story arc takes place across a seven-hour journey aboard the hijacked plane, as authorities on the ground struggle to find answers.

The sizzling seven-episode TV series will also star Archie Panjabi as Zahra Gahfoor, a counter-terrorism agent on the ground when the plane is hijacked who becomes part of the investigation.

Also appearing will be Christine Adams as Marsha Smith-Nelson, Max Beesley as DI Daniel Farrell, Eve Myles as Alice Sinclair, Neil Maskell as Stuart Atterton and Kate Phillips as Collette.

Set to premiere today, Idris is one of the executive producers for the show, alongside George Kay, Jim Field Smith, Kris Thykier, Hakan Kousetta and Jamie Laurenson.

The show, created by George Kay and Jim Field Smith, was initially green-lit in April last year, and production ran from May to October.
