American action comedy Bride Hard is out now in theatres.
Starring Rebel Wilson, the story follows Sam, a world-class secret agent who is demoted to bridesmaid at her childhood best friend Betsy’s (Anna Camp) wedding despite prioritising her job over familial and friendship duties.
However, what should have been a weekend of reconnecting and celebration turns into a death trap when armed mercenaries crash the big day.
This puts Sam in a position where she is the only one who can save the bride, and her main mission being not only to take down the bad guys, but also to earn back the trust she lost along the way and learn to show up for those who matter in her life.
As the title suggests, the film is expected to combine elements of critically acclaimed movies Bridesmaids (2011) and Die Hard (1988).
In an interview, Rebel highlighted a lack of female comedies in the theatres.
“I think there still is a little bit of a perception that male-driven films are better, will perform better in the cinemas. But then, there are things that contradict that all the time, but then it never quite changes. It’s still a little bit of an imbalance, even though it’s getting better,” she added.
“I always like to see a woman who can be funny and hardcore, and can be gross, and can be silly, and can be all of the things; that we don’t have to just be that one thing,” Anna added.
