Comedy horror series Widow’s Bay is now streaming on Apple TV.
Taking place in the namesake fictional quaint island town 40 miles off the coast of New England, the show follows mayor Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys) who is determined to build a better future for his teenage son and turn the island into a tourist destination.
He tries to earn the respect of the superstitious locals, who believe their island is cursed. However, they view him as cowardly and soft.
Eventually, he succeeds and tourists start coming in, until the locals are proven right and the old stories that seemed ‘too ludicrous’ to be true, start happening again.
Matthew expressed his excitement to be part of the project, as he found it to be ‘special and unique’.
“The world is built in such detail, the backstory is so detailed,” he said in an interview.
“Everyone comes with a very strong sense of previous circumstances and history that through great drama will clash with other characters,” he added.
He also described his portrayed character to be misunderstood and that he disagrees with calling Tom cowardly.
“He’s obstinate in his vision for the island, which can be perceived as cowardly, but ultimately he’s trying to maintain the mission.”
Widow’s Bay has earned a rating of 96 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes since the first three episodes aired. Weekly releases are scheduled to continue until June 17.
