Being a passionate movie lover, I have fallen in love with story lines that provide a solid foundation for even more films.

Examples of this range from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (Avengers, Iron-Man etc.) to the James Bond 007 franchise. But when does it become overkill?

If we take a look at Paranormal Activity, we have a great horror movie that stunned cinema-goers with its new take on CCTV footage as the main camera aspect. We all loved it, until it suffered a sequel, and then another, and another … until there were four with another coming out this year.

I mean, seriously? How many ghosts are there in this neighbourhood? Why don’t they just call Ghostbusters and maybe I could go back and watch them in action!

The best franchises in history die peacefully and leave us with great movie memories, such as the Terminator franchise (or so I thought). However, someone dug it up from the grave so he could kill again with CGI (Terminator Genesis). Now we see Terminator as an ugly attempt to bring back something that was better left dead.

Some franchises, however, can still look beautiful no matter how many versions are released, as I suggested at the start. Take the Star Wars saga, which has offered sequels and prequels to appeal to every generation born since its first release.

With the next movie, Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens (set for release this Christmas) the movie-makers have carried on a story which some people have been waiting 30 years for. We cannot wait for its release!
