The low stinger

Having been brought up in Scotland and now living in Bahrain, the windy conditions can often be the same. Tiger Woods reinvented the low punch to a powerful ‘Stinger’ which flies just above the ground at light speed. I will explain how to hit a lower ball flight which is paramount in windy conditions.

Set up:
Place the ball in the middle of your stance opposite your sternum. Avoid having the ball further right.

Favour the leading leg with around 55 per cent weight distribution.

During the swing it is very important to take more club than necessary and swing slower; this will decrease the spin on the ball, reducing the height of the ball flight. Hitting the ball harder will generate more spin increasing the height of the ball flight. During impact make sure you have the shaft leaning forward to the target to decrease the initial launch angle, resulting in a lower, more penetrating ball flight.
