Youth talk

I don’t get annoyed very easily. I consider myself quite level-headed and accommodating with even the most imposing people, or situations, out there.

I prefer to maintain a ‘life goes on’ attitude and afford confrontation. However, just last week, while visiting a local hospital, I encountered one of my main pet peeves.

Given the advent of summer holidays, the clinic’s parking lot was thankfully quite vacant. After picking up my required medication I walked outside to see another car parked, with the engine on at full blast.

The owner was still inside and no-one-else was inside the car. The radio was still on and presumably the AC as well.

It wasn’t hard to miss the fumes being emitted from the car, further corroding our extremely fragile environment. And, what for? Just so the vehicles owner wouldn’t have to endure the quick drive home feeling slightly warmer.

Yes, it would be an understatement to call this country merely hot. But in all honesty what is the need to keep a car running when no-one is even seated inside? The sad reality is that this is a common occurrence across the island. While many are cautious, it appears that many more seem to take our environment for granted. These sorts of actions only make matters worse, so please be vigilant with unnecessary pollution emissions.

After all, its not just your planet - we’re all here together, so don’t let it go to ruins for the rest of us.
