Golf tip

March 15 - 21, 2017

You can spin your pitch shots like the tour players on TV. The key when it comes to generating spin is friction. Friction can be influenced by two factors - equipment and matter - matter being anything that gets caught between the ball and the clubface.

There are three important factors to consider when trying to increase spin:

1. The quality of your wedge

2. Use a premium ball - this can multiply the amount of backspin by up to three times

3. Ensure the club’s grooves are clean and the clubface is dry (this is very important!)

If contact is good and you have factored in the three points above, you should find your ball will land on the green and stop fairly quickly.
