SHOPPERS flocked to Lulu Hypermarket’s Pinoy Fiesta of Food and Fun 2017 which featured promotions on numerous products from the Philippines.

The annual week-long event, which was inaugurated at Juffair Mall by Alfonso A. Ver, the kingdom’s ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines along with the retail giant’s senior management team.

The popular event featured 25 per cent discounts on all fruits and vegetables, noodles and canned goods as well as other items from the country known as the pearl of the orient seas.

According to a LULU representative, the fiesta was staged to celebrate and appreciate its many Filipino customers and the 60,000 members of the community currently living in Bahrain.

The Philippines and Bahrain established diplomatic relations in the early 1980s with the Philippine Ambassador to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, accredited as ‘non-resident ambassador to the State of Bahrain’.  In 1992, due to the growing number of overseas Filipino workers, the Embassy of the Philippines in Bahrain was formally established with ambassador Leonides T Caday at the helm.

Over the years, the Filipino community has grown to become the fourth largest expatriate society on the island.

During the launch event, shoppers sampled tasty treats and comfort food from the Philippines as Lulu Filipino staff members roamed the isles dressed in cultural attire. The promotion was held in all the company’s six hypermarkets at Seef, Riffa, A’ali, Hidd, Juffair and Zinj.
