Eberhard & Co are paying homage to legendary Italian racer Tazio Giorgio Nuvolari, nicknamed The Flying Mantuan for his speed and skills, with the launch of a  new mechanical, self-winding, waterproof chronograph watch.

The Tazio Nuvolari–Vanderbilt Cup is dedicated to the driver for his historic accomplishments. First he raced motorcycles and then he concentrated on sports cars and single-seaters. He was victorious in 72 major races, 150 in all including 24 Grand Prix’s, five Coppa Cianos, two Mille Miglias, two Targa Florios, two RAC Tourist Trophies, a Le Mans 24-hour race and a European Championship in Grand Prix racing.

Tazio also won the Vanderbilt Cup on Long Island, New York in 1936 on board his12-cylinder Alfa Romeo making racing history. It was only right for Eberhard & Co to commemorate his success with a timepiece.

The watch features significant technical details from the past but revised in accordance with modern day needs. The crown features a coaxial pushbutton recalling the chronographs from the 30s. The case has a hinged double case back that can be opened with a vertical sliding pushbutton.

On the internal part of the back cover is a stylised reproduction of Nuvolari’s legendary tortoise, the driver’s initials and there is also space to apply an individual dedication. The machined movement is revealed through a sapphire glass with Tazio Nuvolari’s signature.

It also features a 42mm diameter circular watch case, is waterproof to 30m and it has a dial design that recalls dashboard instruments of vintage sports cars. The watch includes a refined self-winding movement with 30 rubies, blue screws, perlage and Côte de Genève finishing. It guarantees at least 42 hours of autonomy and has the classic trio of counters for hours, minutes and a second hand sweep. It is available on a leather strap or on a Charmantsteel bracelet with deployment clasp Déclic.
