Transform your home from drab to fab with these warm and inviting autumn trends suggested by interior and lifestyle blogger Jane at Home.

The stylist and designer believes that homes are a reflection of who we are, what we love, and the world we want to create for ourselves and our families. 

She says on her blog, “Whether you want to discover your decorating style, create a home filled with positive vibes, or declutter and organise your home and life – you’re at home.”

To help people transition from summer to autumn she shared her overview of the seasonal home decor trends for 2019.

She added: “You’ll find that adding a touch of autumn style to your home is super easy. Simply layer in some accessories, experiment with richer colors, and weave in a variety of textures to help transition your home. With just a few simple changes, you can update your home with warm and welcoming seasonal style.”

Jane says:

1. Voluptuous velvet

“Velvet is a big player in this year’s fall interior design forecast and I couldn’t be happier!  Weightier fabrics make your home feel cosier – and classic velvet is my favorite way to get the effect. A simple velvet pillow cover or two is enough to give your living room or bedroom a touch of chic fall decor in an instant.”

Tip: The biggest fall colour trends, including eggplant, dusty green, umber, ochre, sky blue, and terracotta, all pair beautifully with indigo and navy blue.

2. Wood

“The beauty of wood creates such a welcoming and calming environment for fall. And with the growing desire for lighter airier spaces, wood adds a much-needed grounding effect.”

Tip: Adding a rustic wood coffee table, plus a few logs in the fireplace, are all that’s needed to add a feeling of warmth and natural beauty for fall. 

3. Light woven elements

“Woven textures, in all their forms, add softness to any space and are having a moment in autumn decor 2019.”

Tip: Think baskets of all shapes and sizes, interesting textiles woven pendant lights, natural rugs, and cane and rattan furniture.

4. Sculptural lamps & light fixtures

“The popularity of sculptural lamps is a sign of things to come, as Italian-influenced modern design is making a comeback. But if you’re not quite ready to jump on the bandwagon with this trend, incorporating sconces into a gallery wall, adding a unique floor lamp to your reading corner, or topping your kitchen countertops with a small lamp are other ways to add ambience and revitalize your spaces for fall.”

Tip: A super easy way to bring sculptural lighting into your home is with Noguchi-style paper lanterns. These beauties mimic the iconic look of the Herman Miller bubble lamp for a fraction of the cost. 

5. Plinth Style Coffee Tables

“Another new autumn decor trend you can expect to see everywhere is the plinth style table–especially coffee tables. Historically used as a base to support a statue or vase, today’s plinth is generally seen as a low rectangular or square coffee table, often in marble or concrete, either as one big chunk or set atop a pedestal. It’s a modern and beautiful way to display your favourite coffee table books, sculptural objects and travel mementos.”
