Brits united!
Dear Ed,
After reading an article about a dissapprovement of the Union Flag being displayed at JJ’s (wherever that may be) and the subsequent comment about no one other than the English supporting England in the world cup finals, I feel I must add my two penneth worth.

First up, I am Welsh, born and raised in Swansea and will probably die there. But I will say I am also British (and so is anyone else that holds a passport saying “British” for chrisakes! [sic]) I for one AM supporting England. And I will add that I always have in these major competitions.
Why? Because I am not consumed with inherently passed down petty gripes against our fellow Brits. Also I am not consumed with sour grapes that we (Wales) are not there. I mean, they ARE our neighbours, 90 per cent of my friends are ENGLISH and I have spent more time there than any other place other than my home. And so as a result, I tend to have a lot more in common with England than any other country in this competition. And I dare say, if Scotland or Ireland were there, I would support them all equally. To see hordes of Scots, Welsh and Irish screaming with joy when Sweden scored, well, it made me sick! I cannot help to think that’s just plain spiteful! Most of these support ENGLISH soccer, so I feel double standards are at play. That’s my opinion!

Dear Steve,
I must say your letter has stirred a virtual hornet’s nest. The Scots and Irish are breathing a sigh of relief that you’re Welsh, while the Welsh…well…they’re currently in hiding, and having nothing to do with this. The English in the meantime are agreeing with you vociferously.
But your support for your fellow islanders is commendable, even if a tad isolated.

Cracking issue
Dear Ed,
Your report on the USS Enterprise was a cracker. The pictures were brilliant and the story gave us a rare insight into life on an aircraft carrier. It literally is a floating world of its own. My mates and I have always been fond of mean machines and this one’s the meanest of the lot. Nice one!

Still looking…
Dear Ed,
Bahrain seems to have been taken over by football madness! Not that I am complaining, it is good to see so many eligible girls running around in football kits, very sexy, but why do they all have to drink substances that take their prettiness away after a couple of hours? I am still looking for the elusive Miss Right.

Dear Rami,
They’re drinking because it makes it easier to put up with you letching at them all night…you perv.

What’s the score?
Dear Ed,
Your “obviously Scottish” comment Mr Editor is very inappropriate. We are waiting for the next match against England, who haven’t played us since we beat them 1-0 at Wembley.

Dear Jock,
I presume you refer to the 1999 game at Wembley, where Hutchison, scored for Scotland in the 38th minute. So you reckon you lot can beat England again do you?
