A violent shame

Day after day we read more and more about victims of domestic violence and yet a government shelter that was set up to help these women has only received seven women in the last three months.

The shelter deals with cases that have been referred to them by public security, NGOs and migrant workers groups and can accommodate up to 120 women. They have a staff of 19 social workers and at the moment only have one woman to deal with.
This is a great facility that is quite obviously not being used and I can’t help thinking what a waste of a resource when there are so many abused housemaids being taken in by their embassies who freely admit they don’t have the means to look after them.
How can we ever hope to get a handle on the situation if the resources that are put forward are not used?
