A SAD WAY TO DIE

Some stories just get more and more depressing.

Some of you will remember a piece I wrote in this column a while back about a man in a coma that remained unidentified after being found unconscious by the police. I remember thinking how sad it was that he should go unmissed for so long by any friends, family or colleagues.
After three months in a coma he came to but was unable to remember even his own name. A month later a colleague he once worked with for less than a month finally recognised his picture in the newspaper and authorities were able to contact his family back home.
Unfortunately, a hold up with his paper work delayed his return to India and he has now passed away without ever getting home.
This is a sad life followed by a sad death and should give all pause for thought. How many people are there out there that could conceivably get lost in the system purely because they have no one that even knows their name?
