You don’t know me; I know you, I know what’s being said about you. I’m the ‘whisperer’.
I am socially mobile: Arab, Brit, Indian, Pakistani, American and the rest, they all invite me and share their world with me. Not much gets past me but if you think it may have done, email me on . . .
Bargains in the sale The Whisperer has heard, on the business grapevine, that it’s not just Alba that’s being sold off ... oh no! Gulf Air is up for grabs, but it’s not worth much as all the planes are owned by banks and all the crew are going to Etihad. It seems that there will be an administrator or two left, just to keep the lights burning in the pink palace in Muharraq. Unfortunately, though, no-one wants to buy it, so the government is forced to buy it itself. That’s why it’s selling its share in Alba! Apparently, Riffa Golf Club made a bid …but they wanted to change the name to Golf Air.
Madonna’s moment Can anyone else confirm the whispers I'm hearing about Madonna coming to Bahrain? I'm not sure if it's part of a tour or whether she intends to adopt.
Wild one It seems some people are born to be wild, no matter how well-fitted the suits they wear to work are. And if you think we're talking through our ill-fitting hats you only had to be down at Digger's at the Delmon Hotel on Thursday night to realise that what I’m saying is true. The GM of a top hotel in Bahrain is obviously a fan of Steppenwolf as he belted out the band’s standard...you guessed it ... ‘Born to be Wild’ … replete with Aviator sunglasses and high-kicking aerobics. And you thought only inebriated hacks made mugs of themselves in public tut...tut. In all honesty, however, he was pretty darn good.
The silencer Little seems to have been achieved by investigations into the recent shooting incident at BJ's. I wonder if the sluggish pace of the investigation is anything to do with the identity of the suspected perpetrator. Surely not?
Roadwork excuse There are plans to actually finish the recent rash of roadworks, the Whisperer can reveal. That's right - plans are afoot to bring the mayhem to a close. Just when we all had a great excuse for being late for meetings, school, anything, really, they aim to have it all finished - the date is Sept 15 - no more excuses!
Great Scot! Jackie Beedie has emailed the Whisperer regarding last week’s little mention about his book party. Just a minor correction, he tells me that he did not sell his collection of Rebus novels, along with lots of other paperbacks lovingly collected over the years, he GAVE them away! If memory serves him correctly Carol Melrose, who was one of the first to arrive, pounced on the whole set. “Now, where do you get your info from?” he asked. Wouldn’t they all like to know ...
