A series of competitions and events took place at Riffa Golf Club over the weekend to mark the closure of nine holes of the course while construction of the Riffa Views project proceeds.

The remaining nine holes will be closed on August 31 while a new Colin Montgomerie-designed 18-hole championship course is constructed. The new course is expected to open in April 2008.
Regular visitors to the club had the opportunity to say goodbye to the full existing 18-hole course last Thursday when a special Texas Scramble competition was organised for them. A team based in Saudi Arabia and consisting of Roy Gilmour, Vaughn Martin, Bryan Clement and Don Carpenter won the event with a score of 58.30.
Four of the club’s five PGA professionals took on the members in the annual pros’ challenge on Friday morning and achieved a fantastic 13 under par gross score of 59. The team of Ed Daly, Louise Robertson, Dena and David Wales were the winning amateur team in the competition and achieved a net score of 56.30.
On Friday afternoon a members only Texas Scramble was held as a farewell to the 18-hole course. The winning team consisted of David and Maureen Anderson, John Prescott and Mike Schlinke who achieved a net score of 57.70.
The final farewell competition was a very closely fought all day stableford event held on Saturday. Aika Masahiro was the overall winner with a score of 44 points on count back and Rob Lane came second, also on 44 points. Dan Owen was third with 43 points on count back.
