Following on from last week’s article, I promised I would inform you all about the latest super ingredient in face creams that no star can be without.
Have I got you wondering? Previously this ingredient was only ever given on prescription from a qualified dermatologist with people suffering from problem skin, for example acne, but at the moment it’s found in many a face cream and can be purchased over the counter. I won’t keep you in suspense any longer … the ingredient is ‘retinol’. After recent studies in America it’s been proven that using a product containing retinol over a series of months can rejuvenate your skin, boosting collagen production, therefore resulting in plumper skin with a decrease in lines and wrinkles … and it also helps reduce scarring from spots. After researching many brands of face creams containing retinol, I am now aware that they contain different strengths from as little as 0.006 percentage of retinol to one and two per cent, which is quite strong. When using a product containing retinol results are not achieved overnight – it’s best to start off using a small amount every couple of nights over a space of a few weeks, then increase it to every other night. It can cause irritation to the skin and inflammation so if this occurs you may be using too much. Obviously, if it worsens stop using the product immediately. When using products containing retinol you should also use a sunscreen as your skin will need extra protection, especially in the heat of Bahrain. Here are a few products I came across on the market with retinol: Roc Retinol Actif Pur Anti- wrinkle day cream: A daily moisturiser which also contains SPF 15 and UVA/UVB filters. Skin Ceuticals retinol 1.0 refining night cream: This cream is designed for maximum effect as it claims to contain the highest concentrate currently available on the market. Benev Retinol cream: Claims to contain 50 per cent retinol. Don’t forget you can use eye creams that contain retinol. I like MD forte rejuvenating eye-cream – it’s oil-free, non-comedogenic, fragrance-free and also contains Alpha Hydroxy acids and vitamin E. An excellent purchase although I suggest you use it sparingly.
