Hi, friends, I was curiously following the events related to the participation of Wafa Janahi in the first Miss Arab World contest.
She has the honour of being the first Bahraini lady taking part in this pageant to eventually go on to win it. It was not a smooth sailing for her. At one time, she succumbed to the pressure and decided to withdraw. It was, however, overwhelming support from all quarters that helped her to take up the challenge. In my opinion, she deserves not only the prize for the Miss Arab World but also the prize for being one of the most courageous ladies from this part of the world. She wrote her own destiny and in the process, paved the way for those aspiring ladies who would desire to follow suit. That is not all. She, like Ruqayya, is a lady who wears a head scarf and has proved that your ideas, values and religious beliefs don’t stop you from achieving your goals in life. This is a moral victory for the Bahraini women. I would have been disappointed if she had not participated in the contest. It would have meant admitting defeat without fighting. We should salute her courage. Bye Maria
