Gulf Weekly Save victims

For the past few weeks, both my colleagues, -RdS- and Farishta Saeed have been exclusively reporting on the dangers of child abuse and the effects these offenders can have on children.

In fact, UN statistics show that child abuse can be in many forms.
It states that 54 per cent comes from neglect, 22 per cent physical abuse, eight per cent sexual abuse, four per cent emotional maltreatment and 12 per cent of other forms of abuse.
These figures are very shocking.
Why is any child put through this?  The UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund) reports that child abuse is prevalent all over the world although it is rarely recognised in developing countries.
This is indeed very alarming. It is widely known that abuse, caused by parents or other irresponsible adults, can cause traumatic wounds on an innocent child.
Some of these wounds never heal.
Furthermore, these abuses can cause severe stress and psychotropic depression.
An 18-years-old boy once went on a killing spree at a McDonald’s; apparently this boy was mentally abused as a child and he took out his anger in the only way he knew how, and that was through acts of violence.
It is good news to hear that a register for sex offenders is planned to be set up in the kingdom, to help in keeping a distance between these monsters and our young people.
There is a centre in Bahrain (Be Free Centre) which youngsters reading this column can turn to find help. Contact them on 17242415.
Let us not choose to ignore this problem. Let us save those abused from violent hands.
