Can boys and girls be best friends?
This, so far, has not been a problem for those in the government’s schools around the kingdom; however it is widely seen in the private schools around
I personally know this as I once had a best friend who was a girl.
Well some will argue that this kind of friendship will never last long since the way a boy and girl think are totally different from one another.
Others suggest that this kind of a friendship is not healthy.
As always there are always two sides of the story when these situations arise.
The advantages are that both a boy and girl can experience how to act and relate to someone from the opposite sex.
This kind of friendship can actually broaden the mind, as it has done with mine.
Therefore, once a boy or girl enters into the workforce in the future, both will be able to relate very easily with their colleagues.
Yet the setback to this kind of friendship is that it can develop into too much closeness.
Furthermore, a boy sometimes cannot reveal some feelings to a girl, and vice versa.
We sometimes see that these relationships go overboard and cause problems for both the children and parents.
As we live in our Bahraini community and at the high school stage, a girl normally starts to wear the hijab.
Since my best friend wore it, it was customary that she was not seen in public chatting with a boy of her own age.
Although, nowadays, we are still good friends we are not as close as we were before.
This unfortunately happens in our generation.
