THE much anticipated new 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser was unveiled at the Toyota Showroom in Sitra at the weekend.
The look and feel of the 2008 Land Cruiser has been improved displaying a new engine line up, better off-road manoeuvrability, a host of in-car comfort, entertainment and safety features, while also meeting the latest global standards in emissions and safety, explained officials.
Ismail Akbar, general sales manager for Toyota at EK Kanoo, said: 'The all-new 2008 Land Cruiser will exceed the expectations of any existing Land Cruiser customer. Despite the familiar lines and quality that our customers have come to expect, the new Land Cruiser has been wholly re-engineered to the highest specifications. This vehicle really lives up to its billing as the 'pride of the land.''
There is a new lightweight design that has superior tensional and bending rigidity.
The frame structure is also designed to offer maximum passenger protection during impact and to reduce damage to other road users.
Innovative off-road technology also features in the new Land Cruiser, including a kinetic dynamic suspension system (KDSS), which ensures a stable and smooth ride over any terrain.
Driving on rocky or muddy surfaces, where sensitive pedal control is a must, is also made easier with the 'crawl control system,' which automatically manages both engine and brakes to maintain a constant low speed, allowing the driver to concentrate on negotiating the terrain.
The ample interior space includes plush seating for added comfort over three rows which can be easily rearranged to suit a variety of seating or cargo configurations.
Traditional front and side air bags are supplemented by curtain shield airbags for side protection. Both comfort and safety are enhanced by protective knee pads for rigorous off-road driving as well as secure stowing for passenger items.
The impressive new engine line-up includes a durable 4.0L V6 patrol engine with 240 hp and a 4.7L V8 with 271 hp patrol engine newly converted to VVT-I (variable valve timing with intelligence) for more power and better fuel economy.
An updated 232 hp 4.5L V8 diesel engine offers improved output at high speeds. A new six-speed automatic transmission fully utilises engine torque and increases off-road power, on-road acceleration and fuel efficiency.
Ayman Shehadeh, brand manager Toyota and Lexus for EK Kanoo, said: 'The advanced and rugged design concept of the new 2008 Land Cruiser embodies the best aspects of advanced engineering and technology with a no-nonsense appeal - all adding up to a formidable driving experience.'
The new model is now available through Ebrahim K. Kanoo B.S.C, Toyota and Lexus sole distributor in Bahrain, at the Toyota Showroom in Sitra. For more information call 17730330.
