Dear Stan, This year's International Day of the Disabled on Monday focused on how to ensure decent work for people with disabilities and on ways to tap into the abilities of this marginalised talent pool.

Society must realise the real fact that the so-called 'disabled' are in fact 'differently-abled' and must try to learn to laugh with them instead of laughing at them.

Every one of us is born with certain strengths and weaknesses and obviously all people are people first, regardless of their abilities and disabilities. People with disabilities are badly in need of empathy rather than sympathy.

We can together make an endeavour towards a booming future where all with disabilities enjoy a decent life.

Dear Stan,

The GulfWeekly carries Shilpa's Shopping List which is ridiculous.

I feel that this lady is not aware of what she is doing or she is scared of finding out more details before going ahead and publishing a shopping list.

I would like to mention a few such instances in the shopping list which I believe lead to huge price differences.

High quality tomatoes will always sell for not less than BD0.700 a kilo and inferior quality tomatoes can sell for a price as low as BD0.150 a kilo. Similarly, some supermarkets hoard stocks and sell at the old price though the actual price of that product has increased.

The distributors follow the instructions of the principals while the retailers do not follow the recommended price due to holding of extra old stocks. Such discrepancies will bring out huge differences in the price of products.

If Shilpa's intention is to show the customers where items are cheaper, she should include prices prevailing in Central Market Traders also.

Please tell her to understand the concept before she goes ahead and talks about the cost of living.

lEditor's note: Shilpa's shopping list simply informs readers what a trolley load of regular items at some of Bahrain's most popular supermarkets cost on one particular day each week.

Dear Stan,

Firstly, thank you for the excellent article in last week's GulfWeekly. We really appreciate the publicity as it helps us to attract more teams and sponsors for the event.

We were very impressed with the photograph by T. Andrew Morton that accompanied the article. I think it is the best photo of the race start that I have seen.
