Qatar Airways will start daily operations between Doha and Ahmedabad in the western Indian state of Gujarat from December 12.

The city is Gujarat's largest and the state's cultural and commercial capital.

Qatar Airways currently operates 44 flights a week to seven cities across India - seven services a week to Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Cochin, Trivandrum and Hyderabad and twice weekly to Nagpur. The addition of Ahmedabad takes the airline's Indian capacity to 51 services a week across eight cities.

The route will be operated with an Airbus A320 aircraft in a two-class configuration of 12 seats in Business Class and 132 in Economy.

Qatar Airways chief executive officer Akbar Al Baker said: "Ahmedabad is one of India's largest industrial centres and will provide excellent connections for our passengers from the Middle East, Africa, Europe and US."
