Letters to the editor

Dear Stan, A police officer came to school to tell us about safety. He told us about the importance of seat belts and not to throw stuff outside or distract the driver. After that, everyone went back to class. It was class discussion time for us, and we talked about travelling on Bahrain's roads.

We talked for ages about why we should not be in the front seats and reminding the class of things the officer mentioned. But then, we talked about crashes and the consequences of not having a seat belt on. Imagine, all these kids already thinking about death. From that day forward, each of us became aware of troubles on the road.

A sight often seen here are cramped school buses. Now, is this safe? If they were to crash the possibilities of children dying is nearly 100 per cent!

I'm urging parents to be aware of the type of bus children are travelling on and to do something about it.

For example, I use the bus home. It's a small bus. It's completely cramped and unsafe. I told my mum and she did something about it. We are now getting a bigger bus and this should cut down the risk of us dying.

Make sure you do something about safety on the buses and remember those seat belts.

Jeanice S. Vacarizas, aged 13,

Sehla, Bahrain.
