Wednesday (Feb 20)¥ A workshop for parents will be held at the Bright Beginnings Centre by Dr Hanada Taha-Thomure who will be discussing topics related to children's development and will speak on the 'best child rearing practices'. Entry costs BD5 for member parents and BD8 for non-member parents. Also speaking will be Dr Mariam Al Kooheji, MRCP general pediatrician at Al Shifa Clinic Pediatric Specialist Centre.

There will also be Arabic and English workshops for teachers, costing BD10, to be held from 1pm to 4pm to discuss children's developmental stages.

¥ Awali Ladies Hospitality Group will host a coffee morning at the Bapco Club from 9.30am to 11.30am. Guest speaker is Fatima Fakhroo who will give a demonstration on creative gift wrapping using mostly re-cycled materials. The meeting is open to members and friends. There will be a raffle and all proceeds will go to the Awali Ladies charity fund.

¥ The American Embassy in cooperation with the Directorate of Culture and National Heritage is hosting a performance by American Jazz band, Exegesis at the Cultural Hall, next to the National Museum. ¥ A Scrabble workshop for children will be held at the Yateem Centre in Manama. Leading exponents of the game playing in the Bahrain Scrabble League will be mentoring in the two-and-a-half-hour workshop discussing the rules and helping children play the game. Private and government schools are being enlisted to urge students to attend the workshop to help youngsters develop their analytical prowess as well as linguistic skills. ¥ Kudlothsava (Mangalore Happiness) - a festival highlighting the traditions and cultures of South Indian city, Manglore, will be held at the Indian Club in Manama. Twenty-five artistes are being flown in from Mangalore to entertain guests at the event and it begins at 8.30am. The main attraction of the event will be 'Puli Kali' or tiger dance and others include food, electronic and garment displays. There will also be games such as women's open cricket tournament, men's kabbadi and women's throwball. Part of the proceedings will be donated towards local charities. ¥ The Bahrain Garden Club's (BGC) 43rd Annual Amateur Flower and Vegetable Show begins today until Sunday at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre (BIEC). It will include various competitions such as the best garden, open flower, vegetable and fruit, experimental gardening and flower and vegetable arrangements for different age groups. The show will also feature competitions for different categories which will be judged by 60 professional and experienced gardeners, horticulturalists and landscapers, who will be assisted by 20 stewards. ¥ The second annual charity family fun day and MEPI (Middle East Partnership Initiative programme) desert camp will take place at Sakhir from 10am. The MEPI tent will feature useful discussions, debates, business games, a scavenger hunt, creative thinking, team building exercises and art exhibit. There will also be free medical checkups.
