Showtime Arabia, the leading Pay-TV network in the Middle East and North Africa, won the exclusive rights to broadcast the Russian Premier League to add to its sports lineup. The League runs from March to November and is exclusive for the next three years.
"This is the top division of Russian football and this season will see Zenit St Petersburg trying to defend their title in the seventh year of this exciting league," said Andy Warkman, head of sports at Showtime Arabia, "We will be taking the two top matches each week, one on Saturday and one on Sunday with English and Arabic commentary."
There are 16 teams in the league with the most famous clubs being Zenit, Spartak Moscow, FC Moscow, Lokomotiv Moscow, CSK Moscow and Dynamo Moscow. Two clubs are involved in the Champions League and two in the Uefa Cup each season and the Russian national team qualified for this summer's European Championships at England's expense.
This addition brings another league of quality football to Showtime viewers on top of the Premier League, Coca-Cola Championship, Coca-Cola League One and League Two.
