The InterContinental Regency in Manama enticed the island’s food lovers to Turkish Delights at the Le Bistro café and poolside.
Chef Ender Sahin was flown in especially for the festival and created an array of delicacies. Currently working with the Ceylan InterContinental Istanbul, Bahrain was his first experience abroad. “The people of Bahrain are very warm and kind-hearted. The food here is quite different from back home – we don’t use as many herbs as Bahraini cuisine.”
Last week’s event attracted scores of diners wanting to taste and savour a truly authentic Turkish experience.
The menu included eggplant recipes, meat puffs and savories, pulses, rice, fresh shawarma stands and a table of traditional desserts alongside other local favourites.
Live entertainment for the evening included a belly dancer flown in from Istanbul and Turkish musicians.
The evening also provided guests with the chance to win a trip for two to Istanbul sponsored by Turkish Airlines – featuring a two-night stay at the InterContinental Istanbul. The winners will be announced shortly.
Ryan Advincula, hotel spokesman, said: “The response was excellent. We had many visitors coming in from the Turkish community in Bahrain as well as our resident guests.
“We are hoping to continue such ventures in the future to attract various communities so that everyone on the island can have an experience of different cultures and cuisines.”
