A NEW BD4 million private hospital with a special focus on women's health opened this week in Zinj.

Many major departments at the Al Kindi Specialised Hospital are up and running including a 24-hour clinic, oral and dental surgery, general and laparoscopic surgery and endoscopy unit, internal medicine and gastroenterology, obstetrics and gynaecology, oncology, paediatrics, endocrinology and infectious diseases departments.

"The departments of cardiology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, dermatology and plastic surgery will be opened during July and August," said Dr Ebtisam Al Dallal, chief executive officer.

Dr Al Dallal said the hospital would place a special focus on women's health care. Among the top team are an experienced female general surgeon and a female anaesthesiologist. There is also a specialist nutritionist to advise on health and weight control.

"The well equipped radiology department will ensure that when a woman enters the hospital, she is able to get all the necessary tests under one roof. The hospital is also equipped with a full fledged medical laboratory and pharmacy," she added. "Our aim is to make Al Kindi Hospital a place for healthcare excellence."

The hospital's in-patient facility will be launched with 14 beds initially. Plans are underway to increase this number by acquiring an adjacent property. The hospital will feature a multinational team of more than 30 doctors. Bahrain's former health minister Dr Faisal Al Mousawi is the chairman of the board of the hospital and leading dental surgeon.
