Thursday (August 21) A basketball friendly tournament will take place today and tomorrow at the Umm Al Hassam sports complex. The tournament is being held by the Philippine Embassy in association with the Bahrain Basketball Association and is titled the 'Bahrain-Philippines Ambassador's Friendship Games'. Philippine Basketball Association champions Sta Lucia Realtors will play against national league champions Muharraq and cup victors Manama at the tournament. Matches begin at 7.30pm. UK-based musician Terry Farley will perform at Club Seven.

He has worked alongside well-known artists such as Paul Oakenfold and Andy Weatherall.

He has also remixed for several leading artists and singers such as U2, New Order and Simply Red.

His hits include 'Ultra Flava', 'Shout To The Top', 'The Path', 'Fire Island', 'Roach Motel' and 'Faith'.

The Filipino Club in co-operation with FC Sayaw Unlimited under the patronage of the Philippine Embassy is presenting the Maskara Fiesta Part Three on August 22. The event will feature Salsa and Latin dancing at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Manama.

More than 350 people of various nationalities are expected to attend the charity show which will also include the Recycled Maskara Queen Fashion Contest in which fashion designers are expected to recycle items such as old newspaper, magazines, plastic bags, drinks cans and even SIM cards to create dresses and masks.

It will begin at 7pm and is BD10 per head. The event is held for the benefit of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) which looks after distressed Filipino workers in Bahrain. For details contact Marie on 39827096.

'Ang Mga Likha ni Juan dela Cruz' - The Masterpieces of Juan dela Cruz will be on display on August 22 and 23 at the Al Murjan Ballroom in the Movenpick Hotel, Muharraq.

Phenomena Productions will honour Juan dela Cruz, President of the Republic of the Philippines at the event which begins at 10.30am with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Different forms of Filipino art will be showcased from visual to non-visual and traditional to contemporary arts. There will be a feature on both established and aspiring Filipino artists in Bahrain and workshops on both days.

Fourteen artworks by the Association of Filipino artists will be on display alongside 10 photos from the Gulf Photographers Network.

Other entertainment includes Filipino musicians and dancers, fashion designers and other performing arts.

Proceeds of the event will be donated to Rehabilitation Institute for Active Learning Centre (RIA) and OWWA.

Tickets cost BD3 to visit the exhibition on one of the two days or BD25 to attend the entire event. The event organisers Phenomena Productions are also offering Elham members exclusively the option to buy a day pass for August 22 (including breakfast, entrance to the exhibition and a photography workshop) for BD10. A day pass for August 23 (including the exhibition, a full-day digital-art workshop and the gala dinner) is available for BD15.
