Gulf Weekly Gulf Air makes mark in human resources

Gulf Air's human resources department has reached significant milestones this year and continues its efforts to make the airline the employer of choice and a carrier that means business.

"In our efforts to be the employer of choice and the carrier of choice, the ongoing challenge is to establish new deliverables and to sustain strong partnerships with both our internal and external customers," said Gulf Air chief people officer Ahmed Al Banna.

"We believe that we have achieved a lot this year by creating policies of egalitarianism and teamwork, creating a culture of fun and family that support the growth and development of the airline's people and we are bringing about additional changes that will reflect our strength as a leading employer in the region," said Mr Al Banna.

Gulf Air human resources department, formally called the People's Department, has come up with several initiatives this year that have enhanced the working environment for its employees. This has clearly reflected in the performance of Bahrain's national carrier, which, besides being one of the most punctual airlines in the region, has successfully launched two new destinations in 2008 - Shanghai and Hyderabad.

Some of the enhancements for the employees include, upgrading the performance management systems, inaugurating a customer service centre for staff, new employee-induction process, leadership training, reactivating long service awards, distinguished employee awards, in-house award programmes, automated staff satisfaction surveys and opening up formal communication forum between management and trade union officials.

"We have some more very important projects in the pipeline for the benefits of our employees and we believe we will set a benchmark for others to follow," concluded Mr Al Banna.
